 Weekly Update » June 11 - 23, 2003

Hillary & Martha, Saturn in Cancer, Mars in Pisces and The Soul-Searching Summer of '03:

Astrologically, it didn't have to go this way for Martha Stewart (arrogance always trips up Leos, it did with Bill Clinton), and I'm convinced that she will redeem and reinvent herself before the final act of this story has been written.

She's a Leo with Scorpio Rising (Aug 3 1941), and lucky Jupiter is on her midheaven giving her lots of attention right now  (yes, there will be a book deal), even though it's the kind she doesn't necessarily want. Mars the planet of drive and energy, will soon favorably aspect her Scorpio ascendant, giving her an edge that she hasn't had in a while.

Jupiter in Leo is also doing its thing with Hillary Clinton's Leo planets.

She is so out front right now, and one can't help but wonder if at the last moment she will be drafted by the Democrats to run. Like her or not, one also wonders if it is not in fact her destiny to be the first woman President? President Theodore Roosevelt was a Scorpio (born on Oct 27) and he was President, lost and then as many Scorpios do, experienced a 'rebirth' and served another term.

Astrologically, Hillary and Martha have a lot in common.

Hillary (Oct 26 1947 with latest birthtime being reported as 8:03 AM Chicago) is a Scorpio with Mars, Saturn, and Pluto in Leo, and both ladies share the mixed blessings of such an emphasis in those powerful signs, which makes them fair (or I should say un-fair) game for those that still have a problem with the archetype of the bold and successful woman.
With the perpetrators of Enron, WorldCom and Anderson and the likes of Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, and Bernie Ebbers still relatively untouched as they effectively destroyed the financial lives of so many of their employees, one wonders when these witch-hunts will ever end?

Martha's chart, with Scorpio rising and transiting Jupiter on her Leo midheaven, speaks of a transformation and a redefining of her personal values, as Pluto the planet of death and rebirth is going through her second house of worth.

Many of us will be doing the same this summer because as of June 16, Mars will be in Pisces for 6 months, and retro grade for 2 out of those 6 months from July 29-Sept 27. Mars hasn't spent that amount of time in Pisces since 1956. In my December predictions, "Water Stories" were heavily featured. I swear, I knew nothing about "Finding Nemo" and the splash it would make on screen! The combination of Mars (hot) in Pisces (water), literally spells hot water! Mars rules war, brazen sexual drive, the color red, cutting, knives, and aggression. Pisces rules dreams, the feet, the soul and the sea.

Watch for the days after Mars stations direct on Dec 16 for heightened Mars activity:The Attica Prison uprising occurred in Sept 1971 just after Mars turned direct. And the Christmas Rush: December 17-20 promises to be more ferocious than usual as Mars enters Aries. We can definitely expect some 'Mars-y' action for sure.

But back to Mars in Pisces for a 'mo':
In 1956 during this transit we saw: the sinking of The Andria Doria, (be careful on those cruises and water skis) The Suez Canal, The Interstate Highway act of 1956 and the film The Ten Commandments with the literal parting of the Red Sea. Most of these images speak to Mars (cutting) in Pisces (sea). Pisces rules certain aspects of religion and art, so expect big Show-Biz News this summer too: Elvis debuted on Ed Sullivan during this transit in '56. And on July 1 1956 Marilyn Monroe converted to Judaism to marry playwright Arthur Miller.

Mars retrograde in Pisces this summer will bring many more stories about water AND oil, and how they don't mix, as well as an abundance of religious fervor (do we need any more?).

This 6 month transit will prompt a great deal of passionate soul searching and urge all of us to be brutally honest about what is truly motivating our actions. The conjunction with Uranus could bring sea storms and tsunamis (so much to look forward to)! What's more, Saturn the planet of restriction and hardship has just entered cancer for the first time since 1973-75. This 25 month transit which began on June 4 will feel like 'The Long and WHINING Road'. America is a Cancer nation (July 4 1776), so don't expect the economy or people's moods to improve anytime soon under Saturn's grip. GWB's popularity will decline, along with his very health and safety. (Maybe he should wear water wings?). It was during the exact Saturn transit in 1974 that Nixon resigned. Saturn is exact on W's sun in October 2003 (the station is on October 23).
