Rocky Mountain High Greetings From Denver

The opening ceremony for the UAC 2008 (United Astrology Conference) on Thursday night featured Susie Cox, Lynda Hill, Antonia Langsdorf and other astrologers (who’s names embarrassingly escape me at the moment) in a thrilling dance based on the four elements and the Sun which made me and I suspect everyone in the room proud to be an astrologer.

There are at least 1600 astrologers and students of astrology from over 48 countries gathered here in the Sheraton Hotel in Denver for the first time in six years, and we are indeed “Rockin’ the Universe”.

We’re comparing notes, sharing knowledge, learning new techniques and the benefiting from inspiration that we will need (and share with our clients) to help get us through the years 2008-2012, a time of unprecedented personal and planetary transformation.

We’ve had the good fortune to be covered well in a story written by P. Solomon Banda of the Associated Press; which was picked up by AOL, featured on Fox News, the local ABC, NBC, and CW stations, and there was a fabulous article in The Rocky Mountain News!

Highlighted in the opening was Dallas-based astrologer, Joni Patry, who clarified the heretofore speculative birth time for Democratic frontrunner, Senator Barack Obama. By way of explanation, Ms. Patry has a client who works for the Obama campaign. While with Joni, this client called her colleague, one of the campaign managers, who looked up the Senator’s time of birth on an “official document” and it stated that the he was born on Aug. 4, 1961 at 7:11 pm in Honolulu.

Though the document has not been seen by anyone that any of us know, the circumstances surrounding its acquisition are fairly reliable. So based on this new information, we now are working with a birth chart for Barack Obama that says he is a Leo with the Moon in Gemini, and Aquarius rising. In case you’ve forgotten, Aquarius ca be a very popular sign.

The 15th degree of Aquarius in particular, is one of the eight “portals” in the zodiac, and all natives with either zero degrees cardinal or fifteen degrees fixed in their charts are often strongly connected to the public in some way. The Sabian Symbol for 15 Aquarius (also known as the degree of “the angel”) is quite beautiful and helps to explain why people are so drawn to Obama: “Two lovebirds sitting on a fence and singing happily”.

With his message of change, his aura of hope, and his comfortable and easy way about him, Barack Obama has captured the hearts and the imagination of many of the American people. Astrologer extraordinaire Caroline Casey is very upbeat about what a Barack Obama presidency can mean for America: “Obama’s Mars is on the US Neptune and he is animating the soul’s desire of the country. He is reminding us of how it could be. Neptune can dissolve uncertainty so that vision can come in.” McCain’s Venus is at the same 22 Virgo degree, and therefore he too has the potential to sweeten America’s soul. But how can it work that way, when (according to Arianna Huffington) he has sold his to the right wing?

As of this writing, Obama is very close to having enough delegates to clinch the Democratic nomination, and it appears as if the race for the Democratic nominee (which some say has bitterly divided the party), is about to end. But Mercury, the planet of communication, transportation, and tabulation is slowing into a retrograde phase (May 26-June 19) and one can’t help but wonder what the “Trickster’ has up his sleeves for the next three weeks? Could there be a reversal, another delay, or another revelation that gives the powers that be second thoughts? The Democratic National Committee is scheduled to meet on May 31st to decide on how to handle the Michigan and Florida Primary debacle and what to do about those uncounted delegate votes.

And when you consider that Hillary is a Scorpio with a few tricks of her own who has always managed to bounce back, it’s hard to relax into this race being a “done deal”. To many voters, she still seems more experienced and Presidential than Barack, but maybe we’re entering into a time where that too will be revisited and redefined.

Barack’s chart is of course strong, but is it enough to win the contest against Hillary and McCain all together and to guarantee a healthy Presidency? Some at this conference are very nervous about threat of Saturn to his Mars (not the best picture for anyone let alone a controversial candidate) and yet others are telling those astrologers to back off from their “40th anniversary of 1968” paranoia. Stay tuned. As the season unfolds we will be paying close attention to this and other charts to see if we ca come up with the winner.

Weekly Horoscope

ARIES: After an intense battle of wills or a negotiation in which not everything has gone your way, there’s an October surprise in May that tips the scales in your favor. The trick is to not get bent out of shape before it does. This is one instance, where behaving graciously at an apparent loss, magically changes the energy into an unexpected win. Nothing could be sweeter.

TAURUS: What a difference a day makes: There’s no shortage of excitement this week. One day you’re high as a kite (Sunday), and the next day you gotta watch your back. The key is to remain vigilant and to not allow a cycle of celebration to get so out of hand that you lose sight of your boundaries and give too much latitude to those that may not have earned your trust. At the dynamic Full Moon on Monday, a part of your life comes to a close. But all endings yield new beginnings. The Sun enters Gemini on May 20- and a new financial day dawns.

GEMINI: You’ve been working successfully and peacefully under wraps and beneath the radar. But when the Sun enters your sign on May 20, you will need to be more forthcoming. How can you possibly continue to hide with all that light shining on you? Though you’ve been afraid to reveal something, keeping a secret longer than you should will erode the closeness with a friendship or dear relative that you have come to count on. An acknowledgment of how the other feels and a little apology is all that’s needed to smooth things out.

CANCER: Whether you realize it or not, you’re luckier than most and a little gratitude is in order so give it up; An alliance between a female friend, or a group that feels like family and a partner gets you out of a jam big time. This is one week where it would be ridiculous to let your sensitivity get the better of you. If you attempt to hide out in your shell, someone will find you, and that’s a good thing. Balance out your need for privacy and your need for support and be a team player when it’s called for.

LEO: “Pride goeth before a fall”. Leos constantly need to be reminded of their tendency towards arrogance- it gets you every time. Yes, yes, it’s understandable that you’re feeling a bit “pumped up” these days (a phrase popularized by Leo Governator Ah-nold Schwarzenegger), what with Mars bringing you all that vigor and verve, but be mindful of the obnoxiousness factor, lest you lose the ‘super-delegates’ you thought were in your pocket.

VIRGO: The elegant aspect between Venus and Jupiter on Sun May 18, makes for a serendipitous chance meeting and/or the possibility if a very fortunate opportunity or piece of information to land in your lap. An innocent or pleasant conversation could help you solve a long-standing dilemma. Act on any insight or inspiration that comes your way. The Sun in your 10th house of career on May 20, sets the stage for a month of advancement.

LIBRA: It’s hard to ask for help, especially when you’re convinced you don’t need any. But more than one individual in your sphere has been observing you and your circumstances and would be willing to assist and/or invest if you would only say the word. There may not be a better moment to advance your cause. Be ready for an impromptu switch at work. If a schedule needs to change, flexibility will work in your favor.

SCORPIO: Your ability to turn on an individual in a fit of rage is legendary. Even though it appears that someone is out to get you, there’s no reason to let paranoia rule the day. Your perception may be off. Monday’s Full Moon will test you, but you’re stronger than any planet I know of. Stay out of harm’s way and resist the temptation to withhold pertinent information: As always, good, clear, and honorable communication will serve you in the end. to And for heaven’s sake, don’t be devious, it will backfire.

SAGITTARIUS: While most of the world is panicking about the economy, you have the great good fortune of a ‘grand trine” between sweet Venus, lucky Jupiter, and your Midheaven in stabilizing earth signs in your money houses. Don’t waste this blessing. There is a viable opportunity to put your house in order or at the very least to clear up some nagging debts. Resist the temptation to squander any windfall and for once let the more practical aspect of your nature rule the day.

CAPRICORN: Though it’s never wise to throw money at a persistent problem, there is an instance looming in which the opposite philosophy applies: Someone worthy in your sphere may need or may ask for help: And though you may at first think it best to decline, think again: Your generosity will be rewarded and more importantly, it will bear the intended fruit for the very deserving recipient.

AQUARIUS: A particular way of living or a specific routine at home is history: But it must be replaced with a new structure albeit a temporary one. The balancing act between home, family, and work has been especially tenuous of late, and it will improve-in increments. Work on getting your home where you need it to be. This will change your outlook and productivity in ways you never dreamed possible. Honest.

PISCES: This could be one of the most “up” social weeks of your life and one of the most practical too. All you have to do is to make intelligent choices as to who you spend your time with. Try to know the difference between those who are solid and those who are not. When you have more to offer and are in surer footing, you can return to your penchant for hanging with whoever needs you the most. But for now, focus on getting and keeping your act together and friends who support you in that endeavor.
