For heaven's sake, why didn't they (Liza and David) consult
with an astrologer first? With weddings so expensive, with
all the hoopla, you'd think they'd leave no stone unturned.
THE WEDDING concluded at 6:25 PM EST on Saturday, March 16,
2002 in New York. The Moon was "void of course"
in Aries, and Mars in the 8th square Neptune doesn't look
too great either; the bottom line: this union can't possibly
make it in the long run.
It’s a shame, because in this case, just waiting one
more day, and taking those vows just a few hours later would
have helped some. The aspects on late Sunday Evening, March
17 though imperfect, were better and would have given the
two improved odds for longevity. Even better than that would
have been Oscar Night, March 24, or Good Friday, March 29.
(We astrologers go crazy trying to find good wedding charts
on those sought after weekend dates, some listen to their
astrologers and opt for ceremonies at weird times, like 2:17
AM Tuesday, just to avoid divorce court).
Liza’s a Pisces with Taurus rising (March 12 1946 @ 7:58
AM PST Los Angeles, Ca., Rodden rating: AA). Celestial sleuths
take note: it is Liza’s chart in pale blue, that graces
the cover of Rob Hand’s classic book, "Horoscope
Symbols".
Her chart really lends itself well to astrological study for
several reasons. One, she’s a Pisces with her Aries planets
intercepted 12th house, her Libra planets intercepted in the
6th, and because of the glaring Mars/Moon/Saturn Conjunction
in Cancer at the IC. According to that lineup, Her gifted
and troubled mother, Judy Garland (born on June 10, 1922 @
6:00 AM, Grand Rapids, MN) supplied all the genetic and spiritual
content necessary to drive Liza toward a successful career
of either expressing it all creatively on stage and in films
or crumbling in a self destructive rage.
Liza has done a bit of both.
The ruler of her Capricorn midheaven is Saturn in Cancer.
(Family Karma). It conjoins the moon (ruler of the 4th, and
Mars, ruler of the Aries interception in the 12th). Talk about
having talent, a "karmic career" based on one’s
mother’s unconscious illness, and the drive to express
it!
About that expensive wedding:
Pluto rules Liza’s natal 7th house, and on the day of
the wedding, her progressed Moon was exactly on natal Pluto.
So something about this was "on time". Transiting
Neptune opposed her natal Pluto, indicating, shall we say,
a bit of confusion or deception about this marriage?
Like her Mom Judy, Liza has dated and married gay and bisexual
men. Her gifted father, director Vincente Minnelli was bisexual,
as was her maternal Grandfather, who was driven out of Minnesota
in the late 1920’s with little Judy and the rest of the
family because of a homosexual incident. Liza’s first
husband was the brilliantly talented composer/performer Peter
Allen, handpicked for Liza by her Mom. (This writer was Peter
Allen’s opening act at Reno Sweeney in New York in 1975).
Peter Allen died of AIDS in 1992.
She subsequently married and divorced Jack Haley Jr. (the
Tin Man’s son), and Mark Gero.
The asteroid Hygea, having to do with healing, is conjunct
her Sun in the 12th house, and Liza has had many experiences
in hospitals and in "recovery". She has suffered
from addiction to alcohol and booze (Pisces), and after a
bout with encephalitis nearly died some 18 months ago; She
has had hip replacement surgery, blew up, and has recently
shed approximately 80 pounds. This sequence can only be rivaled
by another Piscean Show Biz icon, Elizabeth Taylor.
I guess after all that, we can cut her some slack, and heck,
what’s wrong with some PR just for hangin’ in there?
But can it last?
In wedding charts, we know that you've always got to "make
the moon happy". The moon represents the woman. The moon
void in Aries in the 8th, talks about a driven, impulsive,
disconnected, and restless woman looking elsewhere for fulfillment.
One can argue that this marriage, rumored to be little more
than a massive publicity stunt to re-launch Liza’s career,
is in fact just that: all about a restless woman. And the
moon in Aries in the wedding chart could support the drive
necessary to keep that career burning. But a void is a void
is a void.
And Liza’s Second Saturn return is but a scant 2 and
a half years away, just about the time that Pluto will square
her Sun with progressed Venus conjoining Uranus. It doesn’t
look like this union can endure. Not by a long shot.
At present time, there is no birth data for hubby David Gest,
producer of Liza’s current European comeback tour. (The
duo met when Gest was producing a Michael Jackson TV special).
But if I were booking this tour, I’d send her to Australia,
where half sister Lorna was at the time of the wedding. Her
relocation chart there puts Jupiter on The MC, and Uranus,
the ruler of her relocated Aquarius ascendant, in the 5th
house.
After progressed Venus hits Uranus, might there be yet another
love for her in late 2004, with a likely 5th wedding? (Just
like Mom Judy) With Liza’s Chiron conjunct Jupiter in
Libra, I would say that she longs for a perfect union, and
will keep trying till she gets it right.
